Our Approach

Our co-founders, Kareem and Rob, met as math teachers at a Title I high school in Washington, DC. Facing chronic absenteeism and a wide range of skill levels within each class, they worked together to develop an instructional model that would empower every student — regardless of background, ability, or attendance — to master key content and skills. Over time, they developed and refined what we now call the Modern Classroom model.

Kareem and Rob launched the Modern Classrooms Project in 2018, when they raised enough money to train eight of their colleagues. Inspired by those educators’ success, as well as the interest of fellow educators worldwide, they left the classroom to run MCP full-time.

Today, in thousands of classrooms worldwide, MCP’s research-backed practices transform both student and teacher experiences.

Teacher Impact

  1. Teachers eliminate lectures by creating
    instructional videos.

  2. Teachers replace one-size-fits-all pacing with
    flexible structures.

  3. Teachers assess students on mastery,
    not completion.

Student Impact

  1. Students learn at their own paces, with the
teacher there for support and guidance.

  2. Students have the time they need to learn, and
    are always appropriately challenged.

  3. Students progress to more advanced material
    only when they are ready.
